Local Impacts of Health Care Policy: A Public Forum. The League of Women Voters of Coos County is hosting a panel discussion about the local impact of state and federal health care policy.

Scheduled Panelists include:
- Tim Salisbury, CFO Bay Area Hospital
- Bill Murray, CEO of Doctors of the Oregon Coast South
- Kathy Laird, Executive Director of the Waterfall Clinic
- Christine Coles, Director of the local Retire and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)

As changes to health care policy have been a prevalent part of the public debate in recent months, members of the local League of Women Voters wondered about the realities: What are the current problems in delivering health care locally? How will some of the changes being discussed impact our lives?

This panel represents a wide range of experience and expertise in delivering local health care. This event is free and open to the public.

Public Forum: Ballot Measures 66 & 67. League of Women Voters of Coos County presents a Public Forum on Ballot Measures 66 & 67.

Speaking in Favor: Attorney Roger Gould

Speaking Against: Publisher Jim Bice

Ballot Measure 66: Raises taxes on household incomes at and about $250,000 (and $125,000 for individual filers). Reduces income taxes on un-employment benefits in 2009. Provides funds currently budgeted for education, health care, public safety, other services.

Ballot Measure 67: Raises $10 corporate minimum tax, business minimum tax, corporate profits tax, provides funds currently budgeted for education, health care, public safety, other services.

Climate Change: 10,000 Years of History. The League of Women Voters of Coos County is happy to present a talk by Don Ivy of the Coquille Tribe on local history of climate change, sea level rise, and catastrophic events that have affected inhabitants of the South Coast over the past 10,000 years.

Don Ivy is the Cultural Resources Program Coordinator for the Coquille Tribe. Since 1997, he has worked extensively with federal and state agencies and universities to investigate, interpret, and protect archeological sites and cultural places on Oregon's south coast on public and private lands. He has also co-authored or contributed to several reports about the archeology and historic landscapes of Oregon's south coast.

Mr. Ivy is a native-born resident of the Coos Bay area. He grew up in Empire-Barview-Charleston neighborhoods along the lower bay. His Coos-Coquille ancestry will be included in his presentation.

2010 Census - General Meeting. Claire Kirkpatrick, who is employed by the Census Bureau in our area, will speak to League members and guests.

The U.S. Census counts every resident in the United States, and is required by the Constitution to take place every ten years. The 2010 Census will help communities receive billions in federal funds each year, and will help determine the number of seats each state has in the U.S. House of Representatives - Website: http://2010.census.gov

County Commissioner Candidate Forum. The League of Women Voters of Coos County will be hosting a Public Forum on Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at Coos Bay City Hall at 7:00 p.m.

We will be hearing from all 13 candidates for County Commissioner. Come listen and learn about the issues important to residents of Coos County. The audience can submit written questions to the candidates and evaluate their responses.
